2020 Texas Mental Health Awareness Creative Arts Contest
Winners Announced
In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness, the Behavioral Health Services Section of Texas Health and Human Services Commission, in partnership with Texas Systems of Care and Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health, hosted the 2020 Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest. Texans of all ages were invited to submit their best work highlighting this year’s contest theme “Why Does Mental Health Matter to You?” There was a significant response this year with over 550 entries! Each unique work spoke to the artist’s own interpretation of the importance of mental health.
To determine winners, submissions were presented to a panel of judges who have the same passion for mental health awareness and an eye for artistic expression. Works were evaluated based on technical skill, creativity, relevance to this year’s contest theme, and the emotional power behind the piece.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, planned in-person galleries have been cancelled or postponed until further notice. However, to view this year’s winners in the online gallery, please visit here.
